Schokland.
Where: Sail Kampen, Kampen, the Netherlands.
What: A statue, created in 1991, in memory of the former island ‘Schokland’ and it’s original inhabitants. In 1859, the island was evacutated by order of king William III as it’s continued survival was treathened by floods. Most moved to the neighborhoud of Bruneppe in the city of Kampen. The arrival of the ‘Schokkers’ had a huge social and economical impact on Brunnepe. Especially the fishing-industry was almost exclusively controlled by the ‘Schokkers’.

What: Is crossing the path of a black cat on friday the thirteenth double trouble? Is crossing the path of a cat half black, half white only half the bad luck? Does a white cat promise good luck? Well, I’m not taking chances.
Klaboutermannikin.
Where: Sail Kampen, Kampen, the Netherlands.
What: According to Dutch, Belgian and German folklore, figureheads are inhabited by klaboutermannikins. They are invisible faeries that protect the ship and those aboard from dangers like sickness and storms.
