Where: Sail Kampen, Kampen, the Netherlands.
What: A statue, created in 1991, in memory of the former island ‘Schokland’ and it’s original inhabitants. In 1859, the island was evacutated by order of king William III as it’s continued survival was treathened by floods. Most moved to the neighborhoud of Bruneppe in the city of Kampen. The arrival of the ‘Schokkers’ had a huge social and economical impact on Brunnepe. Especially the fishing-industry was almost exclusively controlled by the ‘Schokkers’.
