It’s the end of the world as we know it.
Where: 4 High Street, Edinburgh, Scotland.
What: The restaurant called World’s End on the Royal Mile in Edinburgh.
After the Scots lost to the English at the Battle of Flodden in 1513, the king, James IV, and most of the nobility had been killed in battle. As this left the city (and the country) defenseless, the people of Edinburgh erected a stone wall -the Flodden Wall- around the city for protection. The gate of the wall was located on High Street, the exact location can still be seen - marked by brass colored cobbles in the road. As far as the people of Edinburgh were concerned, outside these gates was no longer their world, hence the name ‘World’s End’.The restaurant is built on the foundations of the wall.
